The Model 1911 semiautomatic pistol has endured for more than a century, in the face of countless new handgun designs, new materials (i.e., polymers), and the development of new cartridges for it. But class is as class does, and shooters can still have a Model 1911 just about any way they want it, as many firms offer the iconic arm in a dizzying array of configurations and chamberings. However, the original construction of solid steel remains a perennial favorite.
